Again this suits the battle-like ritual atmosphere of the album; doom is coming: Get this album as soon as you can. It's a remarkably immersive way of spending 40 minutes though; it's quite remarkable how an album full of modern instrumentation etc. Behold the next level.

While not quite as massive as the frankly ridiculous Horseback Battle Hammer EP that started these guys off, this is still quite astounding, and still one of the most sonically massive I've ever heard and ever will hear.

Best viewed without Internet Explorer, in x resolution or higher. It's cool making something that weighs tons and is static, but if you can get it moving, if you can give it locomotion then you can really wreck shit, and that's what Conan have done blogzpot.
It's such a tone-based album. They have been doing this for a long while and now its time for the world to open their eyes to CONAN. This is an album that both mnonos and Phil wholeheartedly recommend without any hesitation at all.

As these guys deserve it. From then on, we go back into the doom metal mire and continue all the way, with more rumbling, bleeding raw doom riffs, rolling lava crumble and pounding drums, into the ultra-doooomy "Invincible Throne", which points into an infinite series of more war adventures, more bloodshed and violence for goals that become no different from accumulating notches on a stick.
And it's really awesome. This is what doom should sound like! Away they go, preparing for war with war-beat drums and military bass riffs, on "Hawk as Conaj, looking up at the bleak skies, riding into battle on, well, "Battle in the Swamp".

Monnos doesn't demand your attention so minnos as suffocate you under total everything-ness. It's an entertaining listen, and I think keeping it at 40 minutes of material is pretty worthwhile, as it's also an exhausting one.
It's everything on this album. It's certainly a stoner doom album but the closest a stoner doom album could get to drone while retaining it's moniker.

That is what hits you first when listening to this album. In intense summer heat, there's nothing like listening to a massive heavy doom metal recording where the lyrics are sparse, almost primitive, and the fixation is on dumping out the thickest slabs of bass grind and guitar lava outflow, and the thumping loads of percussion to go with it, to while away the time.
Or bludgeons I should say. Believe me this album will be receiving a lot of acclaim as it is truly an outstanding album of Sludge Metal that CONAN should rightly be proud of. Get this album as soon as you can. The songs on the album seem to be linked chapters in a grim tale of unending, perhaps meaningless battle and desperate survival in an unnamed fantasy land where war and brutal, senseless violence rule; the lyrics are descriptive and suggestive enough that listeners can create their own desolate worlds in their own minds or on their PCs, and stock these kingdoms with battle-hardened beings hunting each other down bloodstained weapons, curses and dark magic.
Behold the next level. The riffs certainly aren't bad but let's be honest here, this wouldn't work anywhere near as well if the guitars were tuned up a bit and the production was scaled back. The band have picked a suitable mmonnos for their type of extremely heavy doom; this is metal for battles and bloodshed, but thankfully there are no orchestrations, choirs or accordions to be heard here. Papyrus11June 19th, Conan's first album "Monnos" fits the bill perfectly, as it turns out.
The simplicity here breeds a power, directness and full-bloodedness not often heard, and Monnos is a great listen. If you like doom it'll blow your mind. Everything has been turned upto 11 and then some. Newer Post Older Post Home.
